My work so far

My ceramics tell stories that are human, they are relatable to the viewer and each one has its own meaning. My work stems from exploring the human form from the inside and out, feelings, characteristics and emotions to the hard exterior always trying to better itself. This provides me with the fascination of this subject as we are so exposed to media and advertisements on how to achieve the perfect shape an image of what we should all look like and it’s not realistic.

I strive to make the rendering of the figures visually stimulating and even alluring. My wish is for the viewer to be confronted with this realisation and to see theses issues in a different light.

Mathew McConnell does not have a statement but from his work i feel there is a playful child like nature with his use of vibrant colours and playful objects. mathews work doesn't really apeal to me as i don't really like his use of colour or subject matter but i feel Hubert and Laura may benefit from viewing this.

'All of the forms are hand built from red earthenware clay by pinching, coiling, and slab constructing.'

'These archaic systems of recording information are juxtaposed with modern codes and ciphers such as binary, substitution, and Morse.'

I feel that Shayla's work would be of interest to Briona as she uses only red clay also Steve and Laura are working with building blocks Shayla's work may influence them on the juxtaposition of there work.

'My work is a contemplation on material, process, and object metaphors that juxtaposes the medium of clay with industrial materials to create installations that speak of landscapes lost'

'I employ the medium of clay in unconventional ways to accent the metaphorical capacity of the medium to communicate a sense of memory, ephemerality, and loss.'

'to leave viewers questioning, perhaps considering the role they play in the landscapes that surround them.'

I like how Marianna uses a mix of different materials such as wood and clay .This gives of a very powerful message of how man made objects are destroying the beauty around us such as plants and trees by building suburban areas on-top of them. Marianna's technique of using slip and scrunching it reminded me of Gillian's pieces. Also the way she has positioned her work reminded me of Emma k as it almost looks like a forest of trees and links in with Emma's take on nature. Saoirse may also be inspired by Marianna's work.
