My work to date

My recent work is much more fragile than the larger figure I made and Raku fired as you can see in the back ground

This is the back of them as you can see they are very thin, I achieved this by using casting slip .

Some more testers on the shelf . some were so fragile they broke.

Body cast from the front. I prefer this method as the details on the body are more prominent .

Margaret Meehan

'With images of feral behaviour, medical anomalies and barren landscapes, Margaret Meehan’s work lets the innocent collide with the monstrous, evoking questions of race, gender, and cultural memory'

Margaret's work is very powerful as they are so striking. She turns the innocent into monsters which I find very interesting as although they are scary creatures they have a cuteness about them. I feel Roisin would love these pieces

Jon McMillan

'simple and complex, formal and conceptual, internal and external.'

'juxtaposition and ambiguity to create objects and installations that speak to both general and specific dichotomies, allowing viewers to bring their own experiences to bear in the interpretation of the work.'

I admire how Jon allows the viewers to bring their own experiences in the interpretation of his work. I feel that when you can interact with someone's work in that sense that the experience will be more memorable. Jon's work is quite playful with his use of colour and mythical objects. His work creates narrative and generates from concrete ideas concerning symbiosis, conflict, and coexistence. Jon's work reminds me of Hubert's pieces.

Rayn McKerly's work is beautiful but is not really my cup of tea as i am more into hand building  and casting rather than throwing. the colours he uses are beautiful, they are quite neutral and organic giving the piece a very soft finish. i feel Rayn's pieces would appeal to Saoirse and Gillian as they are very good at throwing and might be interesting in trying to throw there own vesels in these shapes and sizes. The glazing reminds me of Doms work as his glazes are always subtle and very nature inspired .

Roberta Massuch

'The shadows created from the compositions become almost as important as the objects, allowing the boundary of the physical form to extend into the space around.'

'We are able to hear a single tone.
But we almost never (that is, without special devices)
see a single color
unconnected and unrelated to other colors.
Colors present themselves in continuous flux, constantly related to
changing neighbors and changing conditions.
-
Joseph Albers,'

I like Roberta's use of light and shadow I feel without this strategy that her work would not be as visually affective to the viewer. her use of colour makes her work pop and also gives it a child like touch.
I think Laura would benefit from this artist as her work is playful and full of childlike memories also these pieces remind me of rocks much like hers.

Casey McDonough

'concepts of connection, repetition, relationship, and construct present in science provided
a clever metaphor for a cosmological understanding of the way people interact'
I find Casey McDonough's work very interesting ,I love how he uses the space to display his work and also his use of lighting. His work is very dream like almost like an imaginary setting. I feel viewing his work would benefit Danielle and I  when thinking of how to display hanging pieces in our exhibition.

My work so far

My ceramics tell stories that are human, they are relatable to the viewer and each one has its own meaning. My work stems from exploring the human form from the inside and out, feelings, characteristics and emotions to the hard exterior always trying to better itself. This provides me with the fascination of this subject as we are so exposed to media and advertisements on how to achieve the perfect shape an image of what we should all look like and it’s not realistic.

I strive to make the rendering of the figures visually stimulating and even alluring. My wish is for the viewer to be confronted with this realisation and to see theses issues in a different light.
